Aquarium Of The Bay
Have you ever wanted to touch a shark?

The Aquarium on the bay gives visitors the opportunity to stroke a shark, a bat ray or enjoy some of the other interactive displays. The Aquarium displays over 20,000 marine animals indigenous to the San Francisco Bay area.

The Aquarium of the Bay is located on the famous Pier 39 which is the on of San Francisco’s major tourist spots. If you are in the area – a visit to the aquarium is a must. The Aquarium’s main feature is the 300 foot tunnels which allow you to see the marine animals in their natural habitat.

In comparison to San Francisco’s other major tourist attractions, the Aquarium on the Bay is young. The Aquarium opened in 1996 and has enjoyed a steady stream of visitors since.

Visitors take a four part journey through the aquarium:

Discover the Bay: The educational displays explain how the ecosystem in the Bay works. Under the Bay: The 300 foot tunnel features over 23,000 marine animals. Walk under this living tunnel and enjoy a look into this secret world. Touch the Bay: After passing through the tunnel there are a series of touch pools. Children particularly love this part! Stroke a bat ray or a shark! Save the Bay: The Aquarium on the Bay has a strong conservational focus and this exhibit explains how you can help.

If you are traveling with children then the Aquarium is an outing which is both fun and educational. Learn about the intricate ecosystems in the surrounding waters.

Come and visit the Aquarium of the Bay for a great afternoon with nature!
