Experience the Audium - San Francisco

If you are in San Francisco and are looking for an experience that is unlike anything else in the world, then the Audium is a perfect evening’s entertainment.

The Audium is a theater that explores the relationship between space and sound in an artistic way. The Audiums’ creators break new ground with a production that is unlike any other on earth. Stan Shaff and Doug McEachern are the masterminds behind this brilliant concept of mixing spatial awareness with sounds. At the Audium, audiences experience everyday sounds (and bizarre sounds) in a completely new way. Various sounds are manipulated through 169 speakers in a show that can only be described as surreal.

On arrival, guests are led through a sound tunnel decorated with sculptures and artworks to a small amphitheatre which seats 49. This curious looking room is arranged in a circular pattern (called a ‘sound labyrinth) with all kinds of speakers suspended from the ceilings, the walls, in the floor and even under the chairs. Once guests are seated, the lights dim until it is completely dark and the show begins.

It is like surround sound on steroids and completely amazing.

The Audium takes you on an adventure using only your ears; it is wonderful! As far as San Francisco entertainment goes, it is pretty cheap at just only $15 for just over an hour’s entertainment. It is not recommended for young children as some might be scared by the environment. The Audium is definitely an unforgettable experience that is unique to San Francisco and the world!
