Golden Gate Park
The Golden Gate Park is the third most visited national park in America. It stretches over 174 acres in the middle of San Francisco and was originally considered useless, as it was sandy dunes, but in 1860 as a need for a central recreational area for San Franciscans arose this became a likely site. Today Golden Gate Park is a haven of gardens, lakes, museums and attractions. There are plenty of things to see and enjoy at Golden Gate Park and is particularly known for its open air concerts and sporting events. Cycling, rollerblading, jogging and walking are some of the most popular ways to enjoy this park. Golden Gate Park is a rectangular shape stretching from the Great Highway all the way through to the Pacific Ocean. Bird watching is popular here; there are hawks, quail and raptors living in the park. The wildlife here includes a herd of bison that lives on the grounds. The Conservatory of Flowers: is home to the oldest wood and glass conservatory in America. The greenhouse is also one of the largest conservatories in the world measuring 12,000 square foot. There are also many special exhibits which take place in the west wing of the conservatory. The California Academy of Sciences is one of the largest natural history museums in the world. It includes the Natural History Museum, The Morrison Planetarium, the Steinhart Aquarium and the Japanese Tea Garden: for many people this is their favorite park of the Golden Gate - 5 acres of sprawling peace and tranquility. There are sculptures and water features with quaint bridges. Come and meander in the picturesque Golden Gate Park!
