See The Civic Center

The San Francisco Civic Center is another of the city’s architectural masterpieces. The center was designed by French architects between 1913 and 1915. The dome is a copy of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

San Francisco is a city steeped in history and there are many beautiful architectural features that make this a remarkable city. Another reason that this is such an interesting is that there are a host of other buildings within the civic center that are worth visiting:

The buildings in the Civic Centre are some of the most architecturally complex buildings in the area. The City Hall building is the perhaps the most beautiful. Built in 1915, this impressive building takes up 2 blocks!

The War Memorial Opera House is situated just behind City Hall. It is one of the largest performing arts centers in America. The U.N Charter was signed in here 1945 as well as the Treaty of San Francisco. This opera house is home to the San Francisco Opera. This opera house looks deceptively plain from the outside. The San Francisco Library is another interesting place to visit while here. It is the library that was featured in the movie “City of Angels”.

The San Francisco Civic Center is where Marylin Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married in 1954. In 1991, the City Hall was the site of a mass gay and lesbian wedding with over 100 couples.
