Shop at Union Square - San Francisco

Union Square is one of the most popular places in San Francisco. It is perhaps best known for its amazing shopping and fantastic restaurants, but there are plenty of other reasons to come and see and explore Union Square.

Union Square is located in the geographical centre of San Francisco and encompasses the area between Powell Street, Post Street, Stockton Street and Geary Street. Union Square was named after the many rallies and demonstrations that used to take place on this site before the Civil War.

Today it is a swanky shopping Mecca. It is the third largest shopping district in America. Whatever you are looking for they have it here! Perhaps the most fun Union Square shopping is aimless browsing. There are so many pretty shops that window shopping can become an exhausting exercise. Many of the shops are open until after 8pm or later so take your time.

Union square and its surrounds have some of the most expensive hotels in San Francisco. Many of the cities richer tourists tend to stay here because of its excellent location.

There are also many excellent restaurants in this area. Choose from café’s with intimate lighting or posh spots with impressive cuisines. For a different experience visit the French Quarter around Belden Place where there are little bistro’s and café’s. The nightlife in Union Square is also worth a visit. Theatre is big here and you can take your pick of historic theatres or quaint comedy clubs.
