Visit The Castro District

Follow the rainbow signage to one of the gay communities in the world. Rainbow flags adorn many windows signaling that you have entered the gayest place in the world.

Known as the Gay Mecca of the World; this area attracts thousands of straight and homosexual visitors each year. The Castro District seems to enjoy a sunny microclimate. It can be foggy across San Francisco and the sun will be shining here.

For gay travel, this is one of the best locations in the world. Being gay here is like gaining access to an exclusive club. There are many gay activities, most notably the Gay Pride Parade and celebration. The Gay pride march here is so famous that many come from all over the world to participate.

In recent years, the Castro district has started attracting more straight crowds as homosexuality becomes less of an issue in mainstream society. The Castro district is still a premier destination for gays and lesbians who come to see The Gay pride march and the flamboyant community in the area. Many tour operators cater specifically for gay and lesbian travelers. It is so gay here that the residents can go their entire lives dealing only with other gay people.

There is plenty for an outside visitor to do here. There are many great restaurants, café’s, coffee shops and bistros in the area. The Castro Theatre was originally built for silent movies in the 1920’s. It’s a beautiful vintage building. The Castro Theatre plays mostly avante garde movies and is a must for any film buffs.
