Alameda
Alameda is situated in Alameda County, California, in San Francisco Bay. It is a city on a small island and is next to Oakland.
Alameda, derived form the Spanish word for “grove of poplar trees”, is a beautiful city with Victorian style homes and tree lined neighborhoods. The community has a rich architectural and historical heritage and has over 10,000 historical buildings. The city has embraced the Historical Preservation Ordinance and formed the Historical Advisory Commission whose objectives are to maintain, validate, and preserve the history and culture of this community. The Alameda industrial and retail businesses are in the Park Street district and is a bustling and thriving area. Alameda has a variety of excellent restaurants and lively bars. The community of Alameda features several art venues and has a theater, historical museum, the Alameda Civic Light Opera, community band, and a diverse combination of musicians, artists, writers, and crafts people.
Alameda, being so close to the Bay, has spectacular views of the San Francisco and Oakland Bridges and skyline. San Francisco is a 16 mile drive northwest on Interstate 880 and offer visitors an outstanding variety of attractions. At neighboring Oakland, visitors are presented with attractions such as Chabot Space and Science Center, Oakland Zoo and Preservation Park.
