This quiet community comes alive during the Clayton Art & Wine festival, and in July the town celebrates Independence Day with a colorful parade.
Visitors can explore the excellent hiking trails that lead directly to Mount Diablo State Park. Other trails run into the nearby Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Clayton even has a Dog Park where owners can take their dogs, unleashed, and play with them in a lovely environment. There are plenty of golf courses in the area and Oakhurst Country Club is renowned for its exclusive and challenging golf course, surrounded by hills and lakes.
