Clayton
Clayton is situated in Contra Costa Count, California, and is approximately 30 miles from San Francisco.
Clayton nestles at the foot of the stunning Mount Diablo, and has gorgeous canyon views. This unique community enjoys a small town atmosphere, and is an ideal place to raise a family, retire, or just for a visit to experience its natural beauty. It is a beautiful community all year round but has even more exceptional splendor in spring, when the slopes of Mount Diablo’s vegetation are lush and green. Visitors to Clayton will encounter rolling hills, historic charm, and a countryside ambiance. The town provides good access to public transportation.
There are no large department stores or commercial traders in Clayton, but that is what contributes to this town old world charm and rustic surroundings. There are some nice restaurants located in town where visitors can enjoy meals amidst peaceful settings. The oldest bar located down town is Clayton Saloon bar, and is a popular spot for locals to congregate. This quiet community comes alive during the Clayton Art & Wine festival, and in July the town celebrates Independence Day with a colorful parade.
Visitors can explore the excellent hiking trails that lead directly to Mount Diablo State Park. Other trails run into the nearby Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Clayton even has a Dog Park where owners can take their dogs, unleashed, and play with them in a lovely environment. There are plenty of golf courses in the area and Oakhurst Country Club is renowned for its exclusive and challenging golf course, surrounded by hills and lakes.
Clayton is an ideal base from where to explore attractions, have magnificent views and surroundings, and is a highly desirable town for a vacation.
