Half Moon Bay / general information

Half Moon Bay, so named after the half moon shape of the bay, is situated 28 miles south of San Francisco and lies within San Mateo County. The city is located on the Pacific Coast and has one of the most beautiful coastlines in California.

The community of Half Bay Moon is beautiful and charming and local industries include fishing, agriculture and tourism. Half Moon Bay residents take pride in their community and cares about their people, education and environment. The historic and cultural downtown area is filled with art galleries, shops, bookstores, craft markets, restaurants, and other businesses. Half Moon Bay hosts the Pumpkin Festival in October, and hundreds of thousands of visitors are drawn to the coast to enjoy the festival.

Visitors to Half Moon Bay days will be taken up with all the many activities and attraction on offer. There are amazing parks and preserves located in the bay area, and feature a rich and diverse plant and wild life. Año Nuevo State Reserve is a breeding and mating site of northern elephant seals. Purisima Creek Redwoods is on the slopes of Santa Cruz Mountains and overlooks Half Moon Bay. This 2,633-acre preserve has tall redwood trees, and meandering trails for hiking, biking and horse riding. Pillar Point Harbor offer spectacular whale watching opportunity in season, as well as deep sea fishing. Montara Mountain is a fabulous area to explore and sit and relax and enjoy the incredible views of the bay.

The community is home to many nurseries, farms and flower markets, as well as magnificent ocean view golf courses.
