Inverness / general information

Inverness is situated in Marin County, north of San Francisco, between the towns of San Rafael and Santa Rosa. The communities’ name and heritage is of Scottish origin.

Inverness is mostly a residential community, with tourism being their main trade. There are a large number of hotels, restaurants, art galleries, and charming specialty shops located in the town. Other amenities include a gas station, post office, library, general store and gift shops. The Inverness Yacht Club offer boating, and there are boatyards and jetties located in the community. This cultural community still upholds the traditions of days gone by and hosts sailing races in the summertime, and 4th of July foot races.

Inverness and the surrounding Marin County region offer a variety of activities and attractions to visitors. There are beautiful State Parks located near Inverness where visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, kayaking, hiking and picnicking. Point Reyes National Seashore has over 72,000 acres of pristine wilderness and meadow land, and has a rich wild, bird and plant life. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails for the nature lover to explore, and for the more active visitor there are biking and horseback riding available. The Seashore has stunning panoramic vistas of the ocean, and Point Reyes Lighthouse has one of the best whale watching spots on the Pacific Coast. Tomales Bay State Park coastal area has gorgeous coves, beaches and tidal marshes.

Inverness is a stunning coastal community with spectacular attractions and activities, and is a wonderful vacation spot.
