Point Richmond / general information
Point Richmond, or “The Point” as it is referred to by the local people, is situated in Contra Costa County California, in the East Bay region of San Francisco Bay Area. Point Richmond has an excellent public transportation system and commuters are situated close to two major Highways, or can make use of the train, bus and ferry services into San Francisco and surrounding communities. This charming town is a neighborhood in the City of Richmond, and is located at the foot of the Richmond / San Rafael Bridge. The City of Richmond has a fantastic shoreline that offer a variety of leisure and recreational facilities such as city parks, a public marina at Marina Bay, swimming and community centers, two community theatres and a country club. Point Richmond, being the oldest neighborhood in Richmond, has beautiful historic Victorian homes of which many have stunning views of the bay. This is a pedestrian friendly town, and visitors can stroll down the streets and enjoy the many quaint shops, galleries, sidewalk cafes, restaurants and grocery stores. The town has a public library, museums, and a playhouse. Point Richmond hosts the Point Richmond Music Festival annually. For the outdoors visitor there are numerous parks located in the area such as Miller / Knox Regional Park which offer a stunning picnic area surrounded by a lagoon, superb hiking and bike trails in the hills, and spectacular views of the North Bay area. A secluded cove offers excellent angling and swimming opportunities at Keller Beach.
